I recently read the book Free of Charge: Giving and Forgiving in a Culture Stripped of Grace by Miroslav Volf. Volf is professor of theology at Yale Divinity School. Volf, interacting with the Scriptures, systematic theology, Luther, culture and personal experience, makes a powerful argument for believers to act in the same manner as God, who gives and forgives. He notes the challenges of acting in such a manner, given the culture in which we live. I loved the book and felt that he did a great job making his case. The book is a good resource for believers who struggle with why they need to forgive those who have committed horrible wrongs against them.
